Will truck run with speedo off?

hi,
i have a bad VSS and as a result my engine will occasionally be subject to a fuel cutoff while at highway speeds. it has only happened when going faster than 55mph. there is no rhyme or reason as to when it happens and it may not happend for 100 or 200 miles. (my understanding of the problem is that its the VSS in instrument cluster that occasionally sends errors to the computer that results in the computer thinking the truck is going way too fast and that results in a fuel cutoff to idle speed.)
i'm trying to work my way back home, another 2,000 miles. so, i'm wondering, does anyone know if the truck will operate at highway speeds if i was to disconnect the speedo cable at the transmission?
thanks.
