wierd noise, electric problems

i was driving on the highway the other day and at like 60 my after market tach started going nuts, when the rpm should have been at like 2800 it shot up to 5200 but it that was false. And also the check engine light came one so i put it in N it idled at 3k. Then i gave a good slap and it went away. then my step dad took it to work the next day and when he brought it back it was a loud deep noise when i gave it gas. now the truck lacks a lot of power and makes an awful noise. So i pulled the tach off and still hearing it.

Can you be more descriptive about the loud deep noise; where does it appear to be coming from? Does it happen out of gear (engine only) or in gear, or both?

Have you done any recent electrical work? Added a stereo/amp/etc.? I'm suspecting a bad alternator at this stage....need more info!

Both in and out of gear. Honestly its hard to explain, this might help my timing chain use tick and now its kinda like its louder and deeper. Still the Chain ?
I can also supply an audio if needed.
also after i had that highway incident the brake light stays on.

Definitely alternator at least. If you have loud timing chain tick it your guides may be gone; if so, the chain will eventually eat into the guard, opening an hole between the oil & coolant (NOT a good thing!).
