Bring your lunch to work and cut your miles in half!

Maybe he is going home for lunch AND nookie? I mean I'd like to see someone bring their nookie to work.

The engine never gets up to operating temperature. So you are always in open loop. The ECM typically runs richer until it warms sufficiently and switches to closed loop. Only way to make it better is to take your lunch.

In fairness, not many vehicles will get good mileage on only 2 mile runs.

Yes I figured that had a lot to do with it. What I really need to do is walk to work.

The gas mileage bothers me, but what really bothers me is destroying my exhaust (rusts out quick with this driving style) and harming the engine since it never gets to operating temp to burn off condensation.

I try to take it out once a week and drive it on the 4 lane for 20 minutes just to blow the stink off

Don't waste your money. There is no 'free lunch'.

Went on a 116 mile drive last night. I used 5.8 gallons (give or take). 20 MILES PER GALLON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOO HOOOO!!!

I ran a bottle of Lucas Fuel Treatment through...and I changed the oil right before the trip!!

ok, i'll bite... exactly HOW did you manage to calculate that you used "5.8" gallons? ("give or take")

whenever i've calculated my mpgs (estimated, more like it) i've just filled the tank, reset the trip odo, driven X distance, refilled the tank, and divided the miles driven by the quantity replenished. even then, my odo and speedo are surely off so it's just a best guess.

I'm pretty sure thats a hoax. Putting a fan in the way of your intake can only reduce airflow I'd imagine, and air doesn't just twist. Consider how a fan works and then think about it. If it does work, you could save yourself 60 bucks and put your own little fan in there.

Yep, that's how I do it (I don't know any other way). I say "give or take" because I know it is not exact, you can always squeeze some extra gas in at the end of a fill up or the pump can shut off prematurely so therefore 5.8 gallons is an estimate of sorts.

Whatever the case that is by FAR the best mileage I've gotten in awhile.

Tornado (fuel user) things are just a crackpot, snakeoil, air intake restriction device. They reduce your air intake and lower you power output, and decrease fuel economy. look on popular mechanics web site, they tested them.

Well, I forgot to fill up after my 80mi trip, so I fudged that oppotunity. FWIW, I went until my fuel light came, as usual, and the tripmeter was at 204.3mi. I filled it until the the nozzle clicked off, as always, and I had put in 15.13gal. So with the 80mi highway trip and 124mi city/rural miles, my mileage was 13.5mpg. Up a hair from 12.8mpg at the last fillup, but that's prob due to the 80 highway miles.

that does seem like low mpgs; my 3.0 does better with all city driving & short trips. surely a 22re owner will chime in here to opine...

I ususally get just under 300 miles when I get nervous, Then put in 15 to 16 gals each time. 17 Gallon tank. Best so far was 316 miles on 15.7 gallons with over sized tires it came out over 20 MPG (22re, auto tranny)

I know my driving behavior contributes some, but not at a loss of nearly 100mi/tank. As I said early in the thread, I used to get close to 300mi/tank before the BL, header and muffler. Nothing else has changed, so I guess those must be the culprits.
