I just think it's interesting that from all posts, there are no 3.4 L or any other engine config. than a 22r/re or a 3.0. So many people down the 3.0, but look at the service!

As far as I know the engine is original
Haven't done a car fax but a few years ago I hit a coyote going 65mph on the freeway, took out my marker light and really messed up the right side bumper and valance.

Cool facts: This is the only vehicle I've ever owned. My aunt gave it to me when I was in high school about 13 years ago because the dealer wouldn't give her much of anything on trade-in because of the high mileage (a bit over 200,000). They must have thought it was on it's last legs. Far from it!

Maybe a year after I got it (still in high school) the temp gauge maxed out about 30 miles from home. I pulled over to let it cool but didn't think to check the radiator (that's how much I knew about cars back then). I drove home at about 45 mph with the temp needle pegged at max and drove it for two more days around town with smoke coming out the tail pipe, finally decided to bring it in to the dealership. The mechanic was dumbfounded that I ran it completely out of fluids and was still driving it with a blown headgasket. $500 later and I was back on the road, and haven't had a head gasket problem since.

When my grandpa died my grandma wanted me to get rid of his huge pile of rocks that he had collected over the years. So I loaded up the bed with rocks not really thinking about what they weighed. Drove to the landfill and as I was unloading them another guy there with a bigger truck saw how saggy my rear end was and asked if I had any problems driving up the hills to the landfill. I said no and he commented how tough Toyota trucks must be.

Lots more stories, like the time I towed the family car (Ford Tempo) 200 miles home when it broke down.

Now I'm a lot more knowledgeable (thanks to forums like this one). I still haul all kinds of stuff in it, and pull trailers too.

I did the timing chain last year (the guides were pretty much gone) and the alternator twice. (Once because a stoner college roommate tried to get a jump and had the wires reversed.) Wheel bearings, fuel pump, rear end overhaul a few months ago, one u-joint, brakes, clutch, vacuum advancer, coil and igniter, oil that kind of stuff is about it. I'm worried the engine is just going to go at any time but I had a mechanic do a compression check and all four cylinders are still at 160, not too bad.

I'm planning on restoring it this summer, new paint, new interior, new tires, LED lights, carpeted bed, etc. this girl deserves it. Already bought some '86 14" SR5 alloy wheels that will look way better than the stock steel.

If that's not high enough, I guess I'll have to run down to Pikes Peak where you drive over 14000 ...
I can see Pikes Peak from my house (no I promise I'm not related to Sarah Palin!), but haven't driven it yet. I have driven to the top of Mount Evans though, highest paved road in North America 14,240 feet. Took pics of mountain goats out the window. I love this truck so much I'm making a whole website about it lol.

I think the secret to the long life of this vehicle is it was always taken care of, never driven hard, lots of highway miles. And oh yeah, the engineers and workers at Toyota. ;-)

Well part of the lack of 3.4s is because this thread is exclusive to '86-'95 trucks which there were no 3.4s yet til the Tacoma and Tundras had them.

3.4s also aren't as old but you are seeing more and more going over 250k all the time and since they are considered "overbuilt" they should last just as long if not longer than any of the earlier motors and have less issues in the long run.

4. engine is stock from what I see ( very stock )
5. I looks as if some minor repairs have been made hear and there. A/C compress gone.
6.well I pick it up tomorrow. my bank was already closed when I put the deposit down on it ($100) it was kinda a self b-day present I'm sure the wife will be thrilled but it's much better than the falling apart CJ7 I looked at. It has sat for 6 months at this dealership ( Chevrolet ) I had to jump it with my own truck ( sales guy was super nice but useless ) and I drove it around their huge ( and empty ) lot while he got approval of my offer of Out The Door for $1000. I know I won't be able to sleeep tonight.
