the headgasket in mine was done under the recall. It now has 235,000 miles on it (390,000kms) and has never had a problem

Mine: '89 2wd pickup - Approx 128k miles on the original head gasket. (knocking on wood as I type this).

Not subject to a "recall" but I received a letter from Toyota offering an extended warranty on the head gasket. I think I am now beyond the extended warranty.

Mine never had any problems, sold it with 225,000 km and it still had the original head gasket. Everytime I went near the dealer they wanted to replace it under warranty, but I figured if it ain't broke don't fix it.

HG Problems

My 3.slow was purchased with 28K miles and ran with no HG problems until I spun a rod bearing @ 210,000. I believe by the 95 model year, the improved head Gaskets & bolts were utilized.

Yes, but that includes those who had the recall done, whether or not there was a pre-extisting condition...

When I bought the truck used I asked the owner since it was his fathers at first and he said he didn't recall. So I have no idea if it has been done. I was told to take my VIN to the dealer and they could tell. Didn't do that yet.

Our 94 4Runner had the recall done about a week after we bought it, and when we traded it in a few months ago, it had 176,000 miles with no end in sight...

<-------(Thread Starter) Has routinely exceeded 90 mph, hit 2 deer (& an assortment of small mammals & birds), towed trailers with up to 2800 lbs, hauled 2300 lbs of sand one time and numerous overloads of rock, mulch, dirt, stumps, etc., 4-wheels offroad on occasion, leaps tall buildings in a single bound, eats small children in one gulp, turns milk sour when it drives by, reprograms your VCR, steals your lunch money AND your girlfriend. All with over 201k miles still running strong with no weird noises or exceptional oil use!

I knock on wood everyday but USE IT BECAUSE IT IS A TRUCK!

I bought mine in 98 with 68k, Toy notified me that it had already had its recall, It now has 290k and I still push beyond 5k rpm often, Only leak is a bit of oil and Im hoping thats from the valvecover not the rearmain.

I was driving on the 405 southbound from Westminster when I noticed the temp gauge was in the red. I coasted off the freeway and stopped at a gas station and had the truck put on a flatbed bound for the steal . . . I mean dealer. They did the headgaskets under warranty even though the truck had over 100k on it. No problem with headgaskets since then up to 239K when I put a new engine in. No problems yet except for what I think is a very noisy injector.

My 92 was done at about 70k got 153k now and no more HG problems. It went out and Toyota milled the block and seems good now.

I'm considering buyin a '91 4Runner with a 3.0. What years were part of the recall (or what VINs), and how could I tell if the recall has been done?
