Where to get oil sending unit for 22re engine?
Have a "deluxe" instrument cluster coming for my 89 4runner, but I still need to acquire an oil sending unit..........are these sending units "generic", meaning, can I just go down to the parts store and get any old one they have?
Thanks.

Just make sure you get the one for your year range, and make sure it's the sender for the cluster with the gauge, not with the light.
The one for the gauge has a round electrical connector on the end of it. The one for the light has a male spade-type connector on it. And, the one for the light is noticeably smaller in diameter than the gauge unit.
You'll love having those extra gauges. I swapped mine out last fall, and they give me a lot more peace of mind.

What he said. You probably are getting an "SR5" cluster with the gauges - not the standard cluster with no tach (which is what came in the Deluxe.
The senders are not exactly universal. Brand doesn't matter, but there are many different psi ranges and many different thread sizes. You gotta get one that fits in the hole, and reads right for the gauge.
Any auto parts store will be able to give you the right one. Tell 'em the year (of the cluster) and that it's a SR5 sending unit, not a warning light switch.
