Where does the wire on the starter go to?
So my truck had starter problems, wouldn't start. I go to replace to starter and the plug-in connection (not the one with the bolt) falls out onto the ground with about 5 inches of wire on it, evidently broken off somewhere. I can't find any loose wires that could've been it but it does conveniently hit a point on another wire that had been connected by hand, so I figure it was a three-way connection and hook it up to that. Day later my starter explodes and so I'm thinking that wasn't the right spot.
Where does the wire to your starter come from? 1986 standard carberated 22r pickup. I'm going to replace the starter but don't want the knew one to explode also.

well the little one that plugs in is actually the signal wire. it's job it to tell the starter to engage when you turn the key to the start posotion. when you turn the key, it energises with 12 volts while you have the key turned all the way, and then loses power when the key's in the normal running or off position
now how did the wire seperate, like broke off the wiring harness on the truck?
any pics?
