wheel play, not bearing

I started noticing some play in my passenger front wheel. IFS.

I thought it was the bearing was going so I replaced it and set the preload as normal. My old bearing looked fine actually.

I put everything together and I still have play and I can't see where it's coming from.

I can grab the wheel at 12 and 6 oclock and tilt up/down and at 3/9, tilt left right like a bearing wasn't tight enough, but everything looked correct when I took it apart.

When I am moving the wheel like this, the steering knuckle is stationary and I can see the rotor is moving w/ the wheel.

I'm going to take it back apart tonight, but anyone have any hints? Could I have not set teh preload right or not installed the bearing correctly or is there something else that could have failed that I'm missing (since this was present on my old bearing also).

thanks!

12 and 6 is either ball joints or wheel bearing. 3 and 9 is tie rods, idler arm, pitman arm

Problem solved... it was the wheel bearing after all... To be honest, I used the trailside repair method of a chisel. It worked fine for me in the past, but it wasn't setting it right this time.

Don't do it. Stupid mistake.
