Whats the difference between 4runner and pickup receiver hitches?

Hey guys, I posted a thread in the wanted classifieds for a class III hitch for my '93 SR5 X-cab 4x4. Got a guy who has a hitch, cheap, but it came off a 92 4Runner...looking at JCwhitneys site and some google searching turned up two different part numbers for hidden hitch and Curt between the same year 4Runner and pickup...so...anyone know what the actual difference(s) are?

The price is right on the 4Runner hitch so if I could possibly make it work, I'd be willing to invest some time to make it happen, plus some fool already did some hack work on the back of my frame for an aftermarket bumper (now gone to make room for my flatbed) so I'm not afraid to make or modify the back of the frame, just want to make sure its not going to come up a few inches too narrow or too wide to actually fit

Well for 3rd gen 4runners and tacoma's they are completely different. Since the rear suspension on both the truck and the 4runner didnt really change, I imagine its the same case for you as well. The pickups have leaf springs, so their hitches need to be bolted to the side of the frame rails. Since 4runners dont have leaf springs, their hitches are bolted directly to the bottom of the frame.

Ask the person selling it to take some measurements for you or if it is close enough go measure it your self.

If you have the fabricating skills you can make it work. Or just make one from scratch all the needed parts can be bought if one knows where to look.

As for making it fit it would be easier to start from scratch from the way I look at things .

Good luck

Buy the one that fits. Waste of time to modify one as once modified no longer certified rated to haul.
Coil sprung and leaf spring rear ends are different, thus hitch receivers fit differently.
