What's the diff between 4x4 and 2wd truck frames?
Hey Guys
I've got a 91 2wd extended cab
What are the major differences bewteen the 2wd frame and the 4x4 frame?
I'd like to lift my 2wd by swapping parts from a 4x4 frame (89 - 94) to bring it to the same ride hight.
Am I on crack or would I be better off just swapping frames? Can't seem to source aftermarket spindles....
How hard is it to swap frames?
Kind of worried about potential legal issues and such...
any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks!

The main difference is the big cross member on a 4x4, but that's if you are talking about the 86-94 IFS frames. The 2wd frame is nearly identical to the pre 86 straight axle trucks. As far as part swapping, I don't think there is much you can use except for the spindles but don't take my word for it. There are a lof of aftermarket companies who sell spindles for a 2wd like Fagtech and Total Chaos just to name a couple. You can get more groung clearence out of a 2wd because the 4x4 crossmember hangs down low. Frame swaps are no fun!

This guy used a 2wd frame/truck and converted it to a 4x4 crawler... http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=447914
