Sounds like you had some good luck on an easy fix. I certainly wouldn't have guessed that! So is it running alright now that you figured that out? As in, that IS definitely what the problem was???
Dunno yet. We haven't busted into it yet. We'll do that tonight. (OK he will. I am baking apple pies)

Have you solder before, tc? Do you know what "tinning" the wires means?

I had the same thing happen to my O2 wiring. The EFI fuse blew because of it. Check yours. That's probably why your engine died instantly.

Yeah, I've soldered before.... heat the wire, not the solder, let it flow into the wires.

So, it was the O2 sensor wires. Insulation was melted through (again). Cut out the bad part, soldered it back, heat shrink, tape, foil, and zip tied the crap out of it (last time I just taped it all up) ... hopefully it stays fixed this time!

Okay......I was just asking. Wanted you to see good results.

I soldered the TPS and ECT sensors on my 3.0 last year (a little "crash" course in soldering....wrecked the vehicle) and that's how I learned to do it. Worked very well.

If it's ever a concern, most electrical supply places have this rubbery, goo stuff...forget what it's called...that you apply to the splice to waterproof it. I've used it whenever I've had to make underground splices for electrical feed lines to the house.

So, drove the hell out of it this weekend with no issues ... seems that the O2 sensor wire was it!

I'm interested to see if that was the cause of my pretty horrific gas mileage recently too...

I know. I just figured thats what all the "guessers" suggest first and I hadn't seen it suggested (and no, you aren't one of the guessers heh)

Got 19.9 MPG on my last tank! That's almost double what I was getting over the last several tanks!
