It is called the 'air conditioner amplifier', I think.

It is supposed to act in concert with other devices to raise the engine idle speed when the AC compressor is engaged.

I think he wants to know what the "RPM" control is for.

Not quite. The idle is raised by the A/C idle-up VSV, which is just switched with the A/C compressor clutch. The A/C amplifier has no way to control "how much" the idle is raised; that's just a function of air bypassing the throttle valve.

Instead, the RPM control on the A/C amplifier sets the RPM below which the A/C Compressor will not switch on. If the idle-up isn't enough (under whatever conditions exist), the compressor clutch opens to stop from stalling the engine.

I don't know of a formal procedure for setting that control, and it's hard for me to imagine what it would be. So for me, I don't mess with it.

So make sure the idle up valve is working and does bump the idle speed up 100 RPM or so with the A/C on (white knob adjusts the idle speed). And make sure the low RPM cutout is a little below the normal idle speed.
Rattle is usually crap in the airbox, could be the blower fan rattling around or crap in the blower housing... Or just one of those random plugs flopping around

If the rattle youre chasing is a metallic sound, check your door check on that side. Mine rattles at times, opening the pass. side door all the way and closing is stops it.

AC amplifier adjustment is specified somewhere but I'm lazy today. Cranking speed is 250-350, on an automatic transmission the in gear idle is 550+ set your cutoff in the range of 450-500. And it should be near to factory specs.

Good call on the door stop, there is a little brass roll pin and easy to distort. Think one of mine is replaced with random small nail now that I think about it.

Another random bit that would be hard to locate would be the antenna mount between the inner and outer fenders.
