What's a code 11 for an '87 22-RE?

I just picked up an '87 22-RE 4runner yesterday and checked for codes by shorting T-E1 and reading the flashes from the CEL indicator. It flashed 11 times with a long pause between the next set of 11 flashes. I've got an '88 FSM for the 22-RE, NOT an '87 FSM, and it doesn't list any code 11. Is there a difference between the 22-RE motors for those 2 years? If so, can anyone tell me what a code 11 is for an '87 22-RE?

Any suggestions?

Troy

I thought code 11 means several things... Could be:

AC switch
Throttle position sensor
ECU

According to my FSM for an 88 (not 87), there is no indication of a code 11 for a 22R-E. However, according to the same manual, there is a code 11 for a 22R-TE, which is the following:

A/C switch circuit
A/C switch
A/C Amplifire (sic : not sure what this means, but it was in the manual)
TPS circuit
TPS sensor
ECU

I get 11 successive blinks and then a long pause, and then it repeats itself et cetera.

I know this is an old thread, but did you ever figure out your problem? I have the same vehicle, 87 4Runner with a code 11.

I believe it was an interruption in the power supply. Try disconnecting your battery to reset the codes and then check again. I sold the 87 last year, so all the problems I had with it are now out of my hands...

I've got a code 11 on mine. It's an 86. It also "sputters" badly after getting wet. Not like driving through a pond wet, but like washing it or sitting overnight on a humid night wet. It's always relatively short lived (like it dries out?). If I really rev on it, the hesitation goes away in the higher RPMs and it begins firing on all cylinders and running right. Not sure what it is at this point. Thanksfully it doesn't haveppn that often. I don't even know where to start. I changed the plugs and wires just a little bit ago.

According to the code log, this code is

SWITCH SIGNALS
IDL (tps) CONTACTS OFF, NEUTRAL START SWITCH OFF, A/C SWITCH "ON" SIGNAL TO ECU

WITH DIAGNOSTIC CHECK CONNECTOR SHORTED

--A/C SWITCH/CIRCUIT

--A/C AMPLIFIER

--TPS/CIRCUIT

--NEUTRAL START SWITCH/CIRCUIT

--ECU
