I have been trying to find the actual size in millimeters of the freeze plugs on my 94 V6 4Runner. We live in Georgia and wife is getting transferred to Alaska.....Auto parts stores down here don't have the freeze plug type block heater, wich is the only type of heater I want as i grew up in Northern Michigan. I have found the part online but am getting quite a few different measurements, e.g., 41mm, 40mm, 38mm, etc, etc, etc. Please advise. leaving in 3 weeks, driving to seattle, taking ferry to Anchorage, driving to fairbanks.

Don't want to mess with ordering part through auto stores, would rather price and order online in my own time.

4runner has 193K on it so it is just starting to get broken in. going to get red antifreeze, mobil 1 10w30, will mix 70 percent antifreeze with 30 percent distilled water, should save the block in case block heater fails

the 22re uses 44mm im sure the 3vze is the same, my suggestion is to go with the rubber ones. they fit better can be reused and are easier to install. plus they cover a range of sizes not just one, check them out. ive used them for a long time now and i will never go back to metal

 

I talked to a dealership guy. He gave me a part number 00213-0090. I found a picture of it online and it looks to be the kind where you actually have to weld a nut into the oil pan to install.

I did some more digging and went through the part compatibility thingy on Amazon.com and I came up with 35mm diameter for freeze plug. I am going to order the amazon freeze plug heater and let the guy at the dealership order me the other one, seems like that way at least one will work. I also ordered another one through amazon for my 2005 grand caravan. My part search came back with a different diameter for the caravan so maybe amazon knows what its doing. Also ordered some 36" battery warmers and some 100 watt multipurpose pad heaters (can use for oil pan or transmission pan or underside of battery. The pads were only $20 bucks a piece compared to the 'special' pads for $60 for oil pan....only difference i could see was that they pulled too much wattage and came with a nifty adhesive kit..

 

I received the 35mm block heater in the mail from amazon and installed it. It was kind of a bummer getting it in but i managed. When I went to knock the freeze plug out I knocked it all the way into the block and had a time getting it out. The block heater would barely fit, and it would only fit in one position which made the electric hookup almost impossible. I managed to get water in the oil (through filter hole when popping out freeze plug)in the process so i ran new oil and filter for a few minutes than replaced oil and filter again.
It might just work.....I have a feeling there is air in the block now.....
