Recently inflated my tires to a higher pressure, plan to go even more, somewhere in the 40-50 psi, depending on whats the max for my tires. I haven't bothered to keep track of the MPG gains yet but I have noticed longer intervals between fill ups. I will know more accurately when I do the number crunching.

Using all Synthetics in everything. You might not notice an millage difference but it's nice to change my oil and filter every 10k instead of sooner.

Trueflow drop in air filter. Having a clean filter is always better. I've never had a more cleaner throttle body since i ditched the K&N and switched to a Trueflow.

Good driving habits will do wonders. Constant accelerations, stop and go traffic, going above 55mph, etc. all contribute to burning more gas. Adjusting idle speed setting to where it should be helps too.

Best thing for me as far as MPG has been my MSD 6A igniton. On the highway I can average a 8% gain in fuel economy. My 91' 4Runner is rated for 19 city, 21 Hwy. I got as high as 25+ MPG (road trips), but usually 22 to 23 MPG, plus a super smooth idle.

Header DT Tri Y
2.25 exhuast w/ glasspack
1mm OS valve
260* Delta cam
K&N drop in filter
Summit street/strip ignition box (wired in in with a quick disconnect if failure, but spark plug gap will need decreased)
Had an electric fan( well still got just not on the truck)
4:88's
Two sets of tires heavy aggressive mud tires on steelies for fun and narrow set of all terrains on aluminum for all other
Dual t-cases (having stock low saves gas between obsticles when 4.7 is to low and high is to high, wheel longer for less)

with the M/T 15-23mpg the three mile trips to work kill mpg!!
With the A/T 19-25mpg once again 3 miles sucks gas

Is any of this worth it? guess it really on depends on what you want to do with you're truck. I've got no car payment no credit card debit and I make decent money so my bonus to myself is to put something new on my truck. Don't plan on selling it and if we decide to get a 4dr I'll strip this rig to build that one!

Well I want to thank you! all for your input after reading all your posts I ran my air pressure from 32PSI up to 41 PSI ( why 41? NFC ) and I’m seriously thinking of installing Downey Headers and a Super Clutch. I should start another thread “Am I nuts to build up an old truck”

want outstanding gas mileage? use these trucks as toys, and buy a prius as a DD. or that new ford diesel thing they have over in europe that gets something crazy like 70mpg or something. or get an EV-1

totally stock, driving like grandma in the city : 19.5MPG
freeway: 20mpg. (at 70mph, i cant drive like grandma on the freeway)
with a fully functional fuel pump and a non-misfiring engine: who knows. lol.

For the cost of insuring a second vehicle for a year, I could just go out an buy 40 tanks of gas. That gets me about 10 000 miles a year.

That is the best one back in the mid 90's I had an 86 22re with an automatic and 35x10.50's and had to drive 80 miles a day round trip on a mountain pass when it was windy (which in eastern Washington is almost every day) The only way I could even think of going 55 mph up a hill was behind a semi and I could even go 65 if he was going that fast and I wouldn't have to have it floored the whole way up the hill!

How close do you have to follow? Those things can stop pretty fast.

What improved my mpg? Easy... drastic improvement. I gave the Toyota trucks to my wife. She doesn't have a lead foot. And she loves them.

On my Ridge, I added a Scangauge II. It keeps me aware of the lead foot, with real-time and average fuel mileage. That helps.

Well it depends on how dangerously you want to live! I would get to the point where I could only see the drivers side mirror. Its close but still enough room to stop if I needed to and I would never do it when the roads were bad, even wet from rain.

EB street r/v head, 268 cam, LC header, factory exhaust (needs to be replaced) I am almost at the 500 mile mark after an extensive rebuild/replacement. Mostly town driving, one small drive in the woods, and I have been getting 17 MPG...

The motor has way more midrange from what I am used to, and I can barely notice the cam at idle...

Yeah right! Zmax my azzmax! Lol. I tried that stuff with zero results and it may even be bad for your engine. Try px3, that stuff helped a little. Enough that I could tell and will use it in every other oil change.

even tho drafting big rigs does help with economy, i HATE not being able to see whats ahead of me, and a big rig does nothing to help that problem...

so, i cut them a break and let THEM draft ME...

I've played around a little with cleaning the intake and disconnecting the egr vacuum line and seen small power increases and only a small drop in mpg's with the egr disconnected. I have a spare 5.8 v8 that would be a nice drop in! Lol!
