wow..... 22r? might not make a difference unless you have a dual transfercase for real low gear ratio...

Try posting or searching on Pirate. I think that you might be able to find a better answer there. Seems like you might break 6.17's. I think you should go with some Unimog axles....

The proper reduction ratio would be 7.17 gears. Strength is not an issue with proper set-up. Quality is not a prob because all 717 gears are Dana.

I would say 5.13s Any lower and its probably not strong enough.

X2 on the dual cases

You need rockwells. Seriously...

If you're staying with dana, I wouldn't dare offer any advice in a gear thread after Zuk. You've already been answered.

I was about to say the same exact thing. You have a good enough answer right there.

Do you plan on driving it on the road/highway speeds or just offroad?

x2 on dual cases though - maybe both with 4.7's in them...

it will do some traveling to near by trails i just would like it to maybe hit 60 mph and that would be fine with me. I will be running dual cases with out a doubt. So with 7.17 I will be able to run 60 mph?

60 mph with 44 inch tires will be a shaking ride ....but you stand your BEST CHANCE of getting there with 717 gears.

Doing a little math.... law of equal equations....factory 28" tires is to 410 gears ....as 44inch tires is to 6.44 gears

That means you need at least 644 gears to get the same gearing overall as the factory 410 and 28" tires......which means that 617 gears is not enough gear.
So 717 gears is about 10% lower than "factory" so yes, you will be able to do 60 with low rpms.

By using 717 gears you minimize the strain farther up the drivetrain...Your transfercase is fooled into thinking you have 28 inch or smaller tires again. This means you can add the marlin double case and all the good internal gearing and not worry about breaking the transfercase output couplers

How would it affect it if I decided to go down to a 40 in. tire while running the 7.17?

it would be like running a 24" tire and 4.10 gears. Great accell but no hwy cruising.

Doing the math....running 717 gears with 40" is like 5.02 gears with 28".....that gears it effectively 22% lower than factory so that is kinda like a stock Yota(410 gears and 28" tires) cruising the highway in 4th gear. And that seems very doable.
Whoever you have do the 717 gears, make sure they do it right.....plenty of CBPL they don't need a housing spreader to do it...they just need the right block of wood and the right hammer.

Ummmm ... dude - get a clue.

At the VERY INSTANT that you order 46" XL's, any drivability concerns, etc are out the window. It's now a pure offroad vehicle and you take whatever the on road compromises are.

Good luck and post lots of pix!

The reason I am going with the 46" XL's is because they are so much cheaper than the SS 44's. I can get a used set of 5 for $300 and they still have about 80% or more tread left. I will be sure to post a lot of pics on my build up thread. Thanks for all the comments. I will be sure to keep everyone updated on the progress.
