Question What gears do I have in my hilux surf?

I have a 1986 Hilux surf with the 2lt. Someone told me this model came with 4:10's from the factory. I'm thinking of running a set of 33's on it this summer, will these be too much for the little diesel?

thanks in advance,

frozen

Run a search on gear ratio. You'll find out how exactly to check it for your vehicle. Probably is 4.10's, though. Plus, you'll get a lot of experiences with what other have found. However, since you have the diesel it might make a difference....as opposed to a non-diesel....since the diesels have better low end torque. It usually makes some difference any time you change the gearing ratio. How much is determined by how much power you're already putting out and how much you're changing the ratio. Maybe someone with diesel experience can chime in.

You have 4.30's? With a 5spd or automatic?

4.30's with a w56 5 speed. The engine (2LT) is running 2 1/2" exhaust, cold air intake, intercooled, and 10 lbs of boost. Anyone think that this is enough to push 33's?

Well then, you might be just fine. 4.30's is definitely lower than 4.10's. Not much, but definitely lower. And considering what you're power plant consists of....

Speaking of which...
Those surfs came STOCK with diesels, 5spd's, AND 4.30's? I'm soooo envious. I can't stand our gov't. Bastards.

I had a few Hilux diesels myself. Actually lots of them.
All came with 4.3 gears (4WD) or 4.1 gears (2WD) and a manual W56 5 speed.
Rear LSD was optional, only on SR5's I think.
O yeah, and optional solid FA up to '95 or '96.

They forgot to tell us about how they could get the diesels with a solid front axle, AND in a double cab
