I'm gonna be replacing the top steering strut you see in the pic. I have KYB is that decent and there anything special to it or just pnp? Also I have the extra rancho one under it, I have a 3" lift. Is this necessary and what does it do?

 

The upper one is your stock steering stabilizer that probably isn't doing much at this point. I'd run one or the other, no need for both.

K then I'll just remove the Rancho then replace other one with the KYB one I have. Nothing special to it right? Just remove old one and replace with new?

 

Yep, easy as that. The nuts/bolts may be seized and you may need to deal with that but it's probably the easiest thing you could have to do on the front of that truck. I'd spray all the bolts down daily with PB Blaster for a week before you do it. I do this every time I have to take something off my truck. It makes it a boat load easier.

 

I tried replacing that steering strut and the ball joint on one side was stuck hard. Tried swinging a mallet but had no room. I usually just bang em out, do I need a joint puller or something?

 

Replaced the stock steering strut with the KYB and made a big difference. I do still get some shake at highway speeds so I'll get a replacement for the rancho and see if having an extra one makes a difference.

 

Replace the stock one. Throw the Rancho away. You probably need a new idler arm if your steering is still sloppy afterwards.
