I bought my 89 22RE 4x4 pickup a couple of years ago so I would have a project vehicle to wrench on. One of the injectors failed last year and I replaced them all with a set of Bosch Gen III which are working fine. I got another 22RE off craigslist so I could take my time on a rebuild while still using the truck. Anyway, I've read an awful lot of great information in these forums and plan to send the OEM injectors out for service. The coil on the failed injector is bad so I bought a used OEM injector on eBay. That injector arrived with the clip on top that I highlighted in the picture, which I hadn't seen before because it was broken or missing on all my injectors. What is that clip's purpose? It looks like it may be to prevent rotation since it could fit within nubs on the fuel rail. Are the clips important? Are they available? Thanks.
Recently sent my OEM injectors to WitchHunter for cleaning and flow testing. Gordan confirmed that the purpose of the clip is to prevent injector rotation as I had guessed. Thought I'd post a follow up in case someone else has the same question. I don't know how important it is to prevent injector rotation but I haven't had a problem without the clips. I'll guess that rotating an injector could disrupt the seal and cause a fuel leak.
