When I got my truck I had a nasty rear driveline vibration, due to a loose flange. The stake was still there, but the flange rattled back and forth at least 1 or 2 mm.

So I put a new stake nut on and tightened the XYZ out of it and re staked it. No issues in 6 months. Time will tell though.

Maybe the P.O. slamed the tranny in gear with high rpms

which made the nut loosen... but I have no answers... maybe a Drive Train Tech can chime in on this some what common problem which is discovered only after the rear drive shaft is disconnected from the rear transmission output shaft flange...and even looking at that nut there you really don't know it's loose until it get touched and then you know
we can only beat a dead horse to death once... so maybe this thread is going to wither away but sure was nice to put heads together like we do in the building dept and come up with some sort of solution..good luck!

Bringing this one back from the dead.

I am having this same issue and it seems while searching there are two different problems people are having.

1- the nut is actually loose
2- the stake is in its "origional" position and somthing else moved.

The problem I have is #2. When I got my truck there was 1-2mm of play and I didnt know untill last week. I tried to tightem the nut and noticed red locktite on it. I unstaked it and I couldnt get it to budge.

Im thinking of buying a new nut and using an impact to take the old nut off. Is this a bad idea? How

that may be the only way to get that nut off that output shaft.....however you maybe able to apply heat to it with a torch to melt the red licktite and then twist off that nut
