Well I'm an Idiot (Knocking/clacking noise)

Like the title says I'm an idiot apparently the last time i changed my oil, when i screwed on the filter the wire and plug/clip for the oil pressure gauge got caught and was inside the filter with the wire hanging out of the seal. (the gauge hasn't worked since I've owned the truck and I've replaced the sending unit) So anyway I was driving it and it started to develop a knock/clack so i decided i should just change the oil since I had put some seafoam in it a couple hundred miles ago. When we went to drain the oil only about a quart came out.... That's when we found the above problem.

So after searching it looks like it might be rod bearing noise? Does that sound right? If it is the rod bearing can I just replace those and be fine or does the crank need to be turned as well? Does the whole engine need rebuilt? Any help would be appreciated. I really screwed up on this one.

First thing I would do is a compression test. If that's ok, then I would pull the valve covers and pull the cam caps one at a time and inspect for wear. If that checks out, I would pull the pan and check the rod bearings. Also look for any bearing material in the pan or stuck to the pick-up screen. If there is excessive or unusual wear, I'd check the main bearings as well. If everything else checks out, and the rod journals are ok, you may be able to get away with just new rod bearings, but probably best to do a full rebuild due to the mileage

Have you tried putting new oil back in it and driving it again? Engines will make a lot of noise when run without oil even before damage occurs. The oil is there to take up tolerances and provide a slick cushion between metal parts. Without oil, there is no cushion and more noise. Damage will occur soon after. Depending how long you drove it you might be fine.
