well I need a new clutch

well I have been nursing along my clutch for some time and now it is slipping bad and it is my fault.
last few days it has been snowing and I live really close to a very large stadium parking lot and they have dumped piles of snow all over, and it looks like the moon.
so I could not help myself but drive around in these piles well after about 35 min of doing this and donuts the clutch started to slip and smell.
so now I am in the market for a new one.

looked at the top one on this page as a option
http://catalog.autohausaz.com/autoha...t=Clutch%20Kit
then theres this one witch I can pick up tomorrow at napa.
http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPage...tch+Pack+-+New
the first one from autohausaz a buddy can order for me and he will get a discount on it but I will have to wait a few days for it to get shipped and I don't know how long I can drive on the one I have
right buying with cash is my only other option I do not have a credit card.

so I guess I am asking is have many people used clutches from napa or any other local distributors?.

also will a flywheel from a 22re work on the 3.0 if so this will make my life a lot easier I can take the one I have and get it resurfaced then put it in without taking the one in the truck out have it resurfaced then have to reinstall it and lose a day.

thanks in advance for any good input

that first one is a little pricey for an oem clutch.....especially when the one below it was under 200....for that price you could get one from lc enginering and have a clutch with major clamping force!

oh and as far as the flywheel...you dont always have to resurface...if its still smooth then dont bother...a little ripple here and there wont hurt at all! just run some sand paper over it! resurfaceing is over rated!

I wouldnt take gaboons advice on the clutch. Resurface the flywheel while you are downthere. its too important of a part to cheap out on. It wont cost you much to resurface and its better to do it now than have to drop everything again

You talking about the shifter seat or the little "white" bushing that go on the end of the shifter, about the size of a big gum ball? Sure, I can get those too.

ok well dose any one know if the flywheel is the same in a 80s 22re and a 89 3.0

I would rather take the one thats out and have it resurfaced than lose a day having to take mine out and taking it to the shop.

I would suspect that the flywheel is *not* the same.
One way to guess would be to cross reference part numbers between the 3.0 and 22re version of the same vehicle/same year.

BTW, don't even think about doing it without surfacing your flywheel.. Especially since you're slipping, it's likely that you've got heat spots that you can't feel with your hands. Nothing worse than doing all the labor for a clutch job simply to find out you've got to do it... Again...

Ill say it again. I went with the marlin ceramic clutch. I believe thats what you sell right Brian? And resurface the flywheel while your in there. Or you can buy an already resurfaced one for $75 from Marlincrawler.com Marlin crawler is awesome.

on marlins page he only has 2.4 flywheels listed thats why I had posted the question of are they the same if so I have one I can take to the local shop and save the 75$ on buying

right now I am looking at removing the flywheel and tranny next Friday night.
then on sat morning taking the flywheel thats in my truck to the shop have them do it and them later that day install the resurfaced flywheel and new clutch that I purchased from Wabbit and hopefully have my truck back on the road by Monday.

unless I can find out if the flywheels are the same then I will take the one I have sitting in my garage and get it resurfaced this week and do the whole job on Saturday.

Get the Marlin clutch. It's way better than anything else.

I went from stock to the high buck centerforce dual friction to the marlin.

The marlin is in a class by itself. Better 'feel', no fade, smooth pedal, etc.
Not to mention that fact that for $200 you get the whole thing, with any of the others you have to buy the bearings sperately - more $$.

The centerforce is a waste of $, it never felt all that great, would fade quickly when abused and just never inspired confidence.

<---very happy with the Marlin Clutch. Note: did NOT get the ceramic, not recommended for street use.

Little confused between wabbits clutches and marlins.

Let me get this straight once and for all. Wabbit calls his Heavy Duty clutchs ceramic and marlin's "heavy duty OEM" is NOT ceramic? CORRECT?

IT's somehow a beefier than stock clutch according to marlins descriptioin.

someone out there clarify plzzzzz

Marlin has "Ceramic Performance Clutch Kits" and "Heavy Duty Semi-Metallic Clutch Kits".

Here's what their website says about the semi-metallic kits:

The Super Heavy Duty kit features a 1600 ft-lb pressure plate for maximum gripping power, while the Heavy Duty kit features a 1200 ft-lb pressure plate, much better compared to the OEM 900 ft-lb plate.
These kits come complete with a heavy-duty clutch disk, heavy-duty pressure plate, release bearing, pilot bearing, and a plastic clutch alignment tool.
Basically it gets clamped down with 33% or 66% more force than OEM. They've put their own kit together made especially for them. I've heard nothing but good reports and am planning to order next week. Probably just the 1200 ft-lb model. I believe you get to pick between the super-heavy and heavy pressure plates at the time of order.

Personally I think the ceramic clutches are somewhat overrated. Perhaps overrated is the wrong word - they're good for the right application. So if you have a real need for it, they're great. But if you were pretty happy with your old clutch, you probably don't need a ceramic puck clutch and probably won't like it either. I believe my truck has the original clutch in it at 180k miles. When I bought the truck I knew the clutch didn't have a lot of life left, yet I've put 30k miles on it with little degradation. I'm only putting a new one in because I want to do it at my convenience. But with that in mind, I reckon a heavy-duty version of the same thing will probably see the truck go to the scrap heap with a perfectly good clutch in it!
