Welding onto the "downpipe"

I have a bit of a delema about my exhaust that I need sorted out.

I'm in a bit of a time crunch to get my truck back together, so instead of trying to fool around making my T3 work, I'm going to run the stock CT-20 for the summer.

When I tried getting the exhaust off the first time I hit a big snag: the studs coming out of the exhaust "bell" on the turbo were destroyed.
This is the part I'm taking about. It mountd to the back of the turbo and then the exhaust piping mounts to it via 3 studs.

Anyways, 2 of those 3 studs are hooped, and only one nut will come off. I have enough pipe left on it to drive to the exhaust shop.

Here's the question: would there be any issue cutting the studs off the piece, and welding the exhaust piping directly to it? I'd get a flex joint installed of course. I'm just not sure about welding stainless steel exhaust pipe to a cast piece.

Big final note: as soon as I get home from working this summer(5 months from now), the whole thing is getting cut off and a shiny new manifold/headers, turbo and exhaust is getting put on.

It's my understanding it can be done with the right material. Just find someone who knows how to do it.
