are they more expensive than a spool, n cheaper than a lockrite, aussie, or detroit?

i was planning on puttin a spool in the rear, but if that's just the same as welding, psssh, my buddy had u-joint probs with welding his. i'd rather fork out the green for a true locker if that's the case

 

ok so if i do weld my rear gear then ill have to buy new tires a little more and maybe a u-joint and bearings? and if i do go a-head and do this where do i weld any pictures of this from anyone? thanks for all the replys so very fast i live in the center part of WI all country all turns but all i do is drive to anf from work thats 20 miles round trip not to bad so i might think about doing this

a set of super soumpers (same size 31x10.5r15) and a welded rear gear thats bad for this type of driving aye? thanks again

 

ok i think i might just hold off for a locker cause theres alot of people saying there very good and not that bad for driving ..................

BUT they eat up the under side of our trucks .................

Every vehicle I've owned I've ended up welding the spider gears. Not bad at all. Yotas are much easier on welded rears than full sized vehicles. Mostly because they weigh so little and have a smaller wheel base. You will notice a little increased tire wear, tire chirping during cornering, and some rear drifting. But I wouldn't trade the cons for all the times its saved me. Just rotate your tires more often, keep your fittings greased, and learn to keep the skinny pedal out of the corners. You'll learn to LOVE that 100% traction. Nothing like doing some parking lot drifting on 35s

 

thanks for the info swampthing that makes it look easy so i think im going to go and buy a newer older 3rd and clean that one up and weld that one like no other no need to have it brake on me that way i can swap out 3rds when i want open for whatever and 100,000,000,000% grip when i want it to now........


ok im welding my rear gear now just for the pluck of it(when i get a differnt one) but what about the front diff????? i think its a bad idea cause then i cant turn unless i unlock one of the hubs maybe it will be ok to do this i dont know any insite to this one guys?

As far as welding the front goes, it depends on your style of offroading, and what your personal preference is. I personally don't like having the front welded, BUT I completely understand and approve of the reasons why someone would want to. It just aint for me.

 

A lunchbox locker is a type of setup. The setup is a mechanical system that replaces the spider gears (and possibly the side gears and pinion shaft) in the carrier. The Aussie and Lockright are a couple lunchbox lockers.
