Welded 4.10s question
Hey yall ive started the process of an SAS on my truck and i picked up a 85 solid axle and it has welded 4.10 gears in it. Ive heard that a "welded" differential means that it is kind of like a locker, what exactly do welded gears do? thanks

Which causes lots of stress and sooner more often than later unless this is a always driven off road where the one wheel can slip in the dirt.
will go boom at the worst time
I venture that this is the front axle. In the winter it is common for me to just leave my hubs in from the first good snow till spring.
in your case as long as your hubs are disengaged all is good when you engage them both front wheels are locked which means steering on a slippery road can be interesting .
