weird grinding sound
Hi i have a WEIRD gridning metal type noise.. seems to be coming form the rear drive shaft area..
few months ago i have a similar noise only in reverse so I pumped the u joint full of grease and it stopped it..
i just now put some grease in the same rear u joint and the noise seemed to go away a little bit but it is still there.
the noise happens when im coasting or even accelerating sometimes... its not always there..
there seems to be no actual play in the drive shaft and no vibrations or clunks..
I just changed the cv axle cause it was ripped and i though the noise was coming from there..
i need some advice.. i have a spicer u joint one 5-4x that I think i bought in the 90s for my 86 4runner.. should i drop the rear shaft and drive in FWD ???
please help...
i have recently done the idler arm, pitman arm, water pump , pulleys , timing belt, cv axle , fuel oil and air filter so my wallet is getting very thin at the moment.. and i still have to get 2 batteries and a exhaust....

Why don't you jack up the truck completely. put it in drive and let someone hit the gas and find your squeak.
Just point the truck in a safe direction and make sure yourself is clear in case anything happens. I highly object to you pulling the driveshaft and driving in fwd

hrmm that seems doable.. prolly alot easyier on my friends lift..
i noticed one of the nuts on the drive shaft may not be fully tight... just from looking...
didnt have time to jack the truck up and couldnt just tighten it by hand.
gonna drive the samurai to work again... my friend with the lift is about a 30 minutes drive..
does anyone know the part number for a spicer u joint??

almost 100 percent sure its the ujoint and when i put grease in it i only see grease coming out of the one side and the other side just kinda looks a little worn and crooked slightly..
it no only makes a slight noise in reverse... how long do you think it will take to fully go???
do i have like 5 days or so as im hella busy at work.. and the part is cheap
