Many of the connectors are still available from the dealer. The connectors have a 5 digit number on them. The connector part numbers are 90980-xxxxx, with the last 5 digits being the number on the connector.

For example, if you look closely at the coolant temperature sender connector, you will see the number 10737. You can order this as part number 90980-10737.

From what I read if the plastic piece is only broke you just find lock and pop it and pull off and replace with new

If your replacing the plastic connectors you need to remove the pins be they male or female and install them in the new plastic connector.

unless your doing something different

these connectors get brittle from thermal cycling on these older trucks quite a few of mine are held together with black tape

Since a new harness can no longer be bought for my 87 4Runner

Yes you can but you need to know how.

If you have a copy of the FSM it tells you how to remove and insert the pins.

Go to this link...

http://www.autoshop101.com/

then click on "technical articles"

then under "Toyota series- Electrical" find the pdf called "05 Wire, Terminal and connector repair".

That will tell you how to replace wire connectors.
