Newer truck, but I had a T100 with a bad igniter for the 3.4L engine, would start and die like a bad AFM, long story short it was the igniter not sending the signal back to the ECU that it's sparking/running and ecu stopped pulsing the injectors.

problem solved bottom of carb had water sitting in it.

Glad to hear you found the problem! I just got a new truck and am thinking of washing the 22RE. Any advice on what not do to? Are there wires I should pull out of the way before going after it with the washer?

Honestly I'd say don't do it. But if you do wrap fuse boxes and alternator with bags and wash everything by hand don't use a hose or anything
