Warn Rockcrawler Bumper Install

So, not particularily compicated or exciting but though I'd snap a couple pics. I bought the bumper used, came with a pile of bolts and shims and one of the mounts was a little hacked up although cosmetically. I had to look at it for a few minutes but was able to survive without instructions. It's definately sturdy, bolts on either side with 6-7 bolts. There's about an inch gap either side between the bumper and the fender which I'm not particularily fond but not much I can do about that. I paid half of what it cost new so I can live with a few little things. I trimmed the fender liner so it didn't hang below the bumper. I'm gonna clean up my old Warn m8000i winch and throw that on it as well as a set of IPF lights that I got a screamin deal on.

Very nice man. Is that gap supposed to be there, you don't have a body lift, do you?

The gap is because the body and the frame flex differently. If it was too close, the bumper could get smashed into the fenders from just normal flex on the trail not to mention winching.

I have the same bumper, it will look a lot better when you put lights on it.
There is a grill guard that bolts on top of it if that's your thing, that's what the six holes are for, I like them better without.

Will these bumpers fit older toyotas. According to warn these are for the 89-95 toyotas. Why wouldn't it fit my 88. I thought the frames were the same. Also would it be easy to work around an sas with this bumper?

Absolutely not!
Anything can be done but, there would have to be some serious re-working of the mounts due to they go where your front spring mounts would want to go.
If you mess with the mounts it brings into question if your modifications can withstand the pressure applied if you used a winch.
I would go custom if you are serious about doing SAS, these bumpers are very expensive in my eyes (I do have one so I know) and you would be better off doing the SAS and then see what you have to work with.
Look at the pics at the top of this thread, the mounts wrap around half of each frame rail, thats where you would want to put your spring crossbar from what I have seen of the SAS jobs.

The front 4 and side 4 mounting points are still used with this bumper and a SAS. However you have to cut off the entire section that goes along the bottom of the frame. I did this and made up some gussets to go between the front bottom of the bumper and the front crossmember. I've used the bumper for tow points and have used the winch a handful of times also, no problems or flexing so far

I guess it depends on your frame and what you trust.
I had to tap each hole just to get the bolts in and I wasn't real happy with the way most of them felt.
That's why I still don't trust it for a winch, someday I will weld the mounts to the frame and then I'll trust putting a winch on it.

Also what is the difference in frames? This should fit my 88 right?
