wanna run 33X12.5 BGF Muds on my '95 4runner.

Well I'm still debating over going the cheap route and getting some Rock Crawler steel wheels or going my original route of puting MT Classics II's on my 1995 4runner, but either way the wheels are going to be 15X10 and the tires I want to mount on there are 33X12.5 BFG Muds on em.
My question is would a 3" body lift w/ Downey 1.5" HD coils in the rear be enough to run that tire and wheel combo?

Thanks,
Sadiq

Sorry to thread jack but, Keggo I noticed that you removed your lower valence (lower bumper), it looks pretty nice!!! What did you have to remove to take it off???

the lower valence is just held on by bolts. crawl under and take a look-see. pretty easy.

A 1" BL is plenty enough to run 33's. I have no lift running 33x10.50x15's and the only rubbing i get is on the plactic valence which i'll be taking off soon anyway. A 2 or 3" BL is a bad idea. You'd be better off with a 1" BL, HD coils, and maybe some BJ spacers up front.

Thanks everyone for the help

Could you elaborate more on why the bodylift would be a bad idea?

The reason I wanted to the the 3" body lift and get the HD coils is because I saw this combo on David Krenkse's 4runner, not to mention he has the exact same wheels and tires I want to get.

Here are some pics of David's rig

Besides putting more stress on the rig, I've seen where the body lift has gone through the floor board.

Here's mine on 33s, check the sig for lift details:

I'm thinking about doing a 2" BL, but I've never heard of the BL going through the floorboard. USAtruck6, can you explain?

Thanks.

Nice Rig! Man the more I see you guys with the black rock crawlers the more I want them...not to mention the money I save by buying those instead of the MT Classic IIs can be used on other stuff.

Hey I got a quick question for you...today I was on Downey's website about to order the Downey HD 1.5" Rear Coils along w/ the 1.5" spacer kit but I didn't because I didn't see the 1.5" spacer kit on the website. However, I did call them up and they said they do have the spacer kit just not on the website and that the cost for the kit is $158 or something near there. He told me it would be about $360shipped for both kits(1.5" HD Kit and 1.5" spacer kit) which is there 3" kit. Is that how much you payed for your setup from Downey?

Thanks

I paid $358.27 (plus s/h) for the 'kit' which are really two items you need to buy:
1. the HD coils (P/N: 48290-HD) and
2. the spacers (P/N: 48257).

Their site is misleading, but the 'kit' comes with everything you need (brake lines, panhard drop, brackets, etc...) so it's actually really good and their customer service is great. I was gonna go with OME and put together a lift 'kit' but I didn't know squat then. If I were you, get the 1.5" BJs from: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/...ntSpacer.shtml for the front.

Oh, BTW, I bought my 15x8 Rock Crawlers for $39 at Discount tire...Brand New.

What back spacing do you have on the wheels? $39 bucks damn! i went to the discount tire website and could not locate those wheels...do you remeber who you spoke to or did you just order them off the website?

Oh, thanks for the earlier compliments.

I walked right into Discount Tire and said, "I can get some black steelies from 4WheelParts for 43 bucks, can you beat that?" and he said, "How's about $39?". Soon thereafter I was driving away with my rims and tires with a big smile on my face.

The backspacing is 3.75" I believe. Go around and get written quotes and make your 'favorite' place be the last and say, "Can you beat these prices?" Basically, competition will help you drive the price down.

Good Luck and happy shopping.

Oh...EDIT, keeping the 1.5" Downey coil spacers and buying a 2" BL

are you planing to wheel with your truck? If you are, you might wanna keep the Downey springs and spacer.
Here are couple of pics of 2" BL and 3" Downey setup flexing..
You need the lift ...trust me. Last pic is when it sits on level ground.

First of all, you will have to do fender trimming, etc...on the front fenders with the BJspacer lift...I just got 33x12.50's and they rub like crazy...The rear is a little easier, just a bit of sus lift will do you nicely.

Second, if you plan to wheel, i don't recomend any expensive rims...they'll just get beat up and more money out the window...i buy the cheapo black steel ones, so when they are beat up enough that they no longer hold air, it's only 30 bucks a rim to replace...

This is exactly the lift I want. Gonna order the 2" BL this week. Thanks again Anthony.

EDIT: Just got a hold of some FJ80 coils for cheap. I'll hold off from getting the BL and will go this route. Perhaps do a 1" BL if I still need it. Thanks Rocket for the PM.

I agree with you on the rims, my last trip out I got some nice rock rash on the passenger's side Alcoa. It will buff out after spending a couple hours with a Dremel tool. It would be nice to have a set or rock crawling rims to thrash and a second set of rims for the road but then you have to swap tires unless you can afford two complete tire/rim setups. Cebby is having beadlocks installed on his original stock aluminum rims so he can run 35s. Depending how they turn out, I may do the same to have a dedicated set of offroad tires.

I didn't have to trim my fenders with a BJ spacer lift and 33 x 12.5 BFG MTs. I DID have to pound the pinch weld flat and trim the very bottom of the plastic liner inside the fender. Where are you rubbing? Edit: I just noticed you have a 1st gen so you may have rubbing where we don't with the 2nd gen.

As you saw on the earlier posts, if you dont lift and just put on 33's, you'll have less space from the top of the tire to the inner wheel well.
Not a good idea.

Quick Reply: wanna run 33X12.5 BGF Muds on my '95 4runner.
