I was all fired up after reading/seeing results of roll on paint jobs. My truck was in dire need of paint and body work. After rust removal/sheetmetal repair I tried my hand at 'rolling' and found I should've asked a question first. As I rolled w' high density 4" roller the paint looked like orange peel but it did start to level out some but I could see the direction of my rolls (and this is w/ flat black!).

Do you roll in mutiple directions while applying paint? Other than the orange peel when wet the paint looked evenly applied straight out of the can.

The temp was 52* F when I started and 61* just as I started to do the hood when the rain let loose! Pulled my truck into garage and I'm sure there's going to be h20 spots galore that'll be sanded out for 2nd coat.

Any tip/s would be appreciated.

 

kinda sounds like your going on a little too thick and it dried too fast.

 

all you need to do it block it out with a wet sanding method.

doing so will bring you back to square one and you will be able to continue your paint job.

 

Did you read the famous Mopar thread on painting with Rustoleum? If not I can find it for you. I think you are supposed to thin the paint about 25% with paint thinner, even though the can says use something else. When you roll, the paint not really the roller itself make contact with the surface. You should not be using so much pressure that you leave roller marks. Keep a dry disposable foam hand brush handy and sometimes you can brush out any runs or curtains by dipping the brush in thinner and lightly going over it. I haven't painted a car but have painted an antique boat and it looks sprayed.
