W55 Whine, Rebuild Time?

Hey y'all. My 2wd 87 is sitting at 300000 miles right now. Bought it a few years ago and have been driving it on and off. Been noticing a whine in 3rd gear for a little while. I'm seriously considering a rebuild but I'm just wondering what y'all's experiences have been with these trannies. It seems like it's only in 3rd gear but being that my exhaust is so loud right now it may be that I'm not hearing the other gears over the drone. It's moderately loud but I have no issues with the transmission besides the sound. Shifts fine, nothings grinding no popping out of gear. I can say it's slightly louder than the typical whine in reverse.

What do y'all think? Time to rebuild? Throw thicker gear oil in and run er? Obviously if there's sound there's wear and third gear gets the most heavy use so that makes sense to me. On one hand it'd be nice to just rebuild it and have the worry of catastrophic failure out of my mind. On the other I don't want to rebuild prematurely. Then again 300000 is a good run for a manual tranny no?

What’s the cost of peace of mind?
sounds like the tranny has done it job.
if it’s cold where you are, I’d find a thinner transmission fluid and see if that helps. I know with my last manual, 2016 ram 2500’witb g56, cold mornings lead to slow shifts and some whine, but it went away after warmed up.
