I would just change my plugs to NGK or Denso right away. Also and inexpensive and easy place to start.

I also heard that the most problematic toyotas that went into a local shop here always had those Effin Bosch plugs. I went to the dealerary and bought some sparks from them. They were already set to the right gap. Had no probs with them, and they are cheap.

I'm telling you, try the Lucas 1st. It took away my tick rightaway. What you got to loose, $10.00 and 5 min. of your time. But it is up to you what you want to do.

Make sure none of your sparkplugs are loose. I think there was a story about that here a little while ago.

Sounds like an exhaust leak to me. Valves especially in the 3.0 get tighter with age (hence they get burned by hanging open a little) and when valves get tighter they also get quieter, much quieter. I would consider injector noise which they have plenty of or most likely an exhaust leak.

Hail Mary. ANY Help is greatly appreciated..
You might check with a couple of dealers as a reference cost. Sometimes a good dealer is an excellent thing to have around.

It's unlikely that valve clearance would be the cause of your noise with a 3vze.

You say that you can tell it's getting worse so that is also an indication that it is not the valves.

A lot of 3vze engines suffered some bearing and rod damage when there head gaskets failed and sometimes it is not evident until much further down the road. sometimes 10s of thousands of miles later.

If it started after you tuned it up do you suppose you may have a loose spark plug or cross threaded one of them.

I read through this thread kinda quick and maybe I missed it. But, you might want to do a little exploring with a mechanic's stethoscope. It definitely helped me to differentiate valve noise from injector noise. Good luck!
