vacuum issues?

My friend just bought a new 1990 4runner with my recommendation... she told me about it and showed me pics, I talked to the owner on the phone, and everything I heard sounded great- new 22re, new clutch ect, so I told her to buy it. She brought it by my place so I could look at it, and while going through it she finally mentioned the 4wd doesnt work.............................................. ...............
ooook would have been nice to know before you bought it, whats wrong with it? Sensor in the transfer says the previous owner. So I get to messin with it, I start it up and drive it around. The brand new 22re fires right up and runs amazing, but it is idling high.... noted that Ill need to adjust it. Then I looked and and noticed that it is actually in 4wd.... not a big deal but bad for gas mileage.. so I shift into 2 high and the engine startes lurching... vooom.... vooom.... vooom.... wont stop until I put it back into 4 high.

So help me out here, I have never messed with vacuums but what it sounds like to me is the guy who put in this brand new 22re didnt hook up the vacuum lines right, so now the ADD doesnt work, the idle is high, and to even idle it needs to be in 4 high....

Heres the specs:
1990 22re
auto hubs with ADD
5 spd manual trans
check engine light on
4wd light will not come on

Throw me a bone here?

The truck is trying to tell you something as plainly as it can. What is it saying?

(Find out what codes it is throwing. Having the vacuum messed up can cause codes all by itself, but at least you'll know which direction you need to go.)
