Using Coke - Coca~Cola in the water jackets of an engine block.

I've seen this done in the past and am wondering if anyone here has done it. Coke is definitely useful for other things, like disintegrating pennies and I believe people pour coke in the water jackets (when the head is off) to clean the water jackets out. Anyone here hear of this?

I thought about titling this thread 'Any Coke users here' but decided against it

I would just stick with nylon stiff bristle cleaners and water. Or the machine shops power tank when i can afford it.

Nothing magic about coke. It's phosphoric acid in it that cleans/eats things. You could make up a weak batch of phosphoric acid. You can google for suggestions on how to use it to remove rust.

Coke, other than water, is mostly sugar. Can't imagine it's a good idea to let sugar into the block.

I've heard they use coca-cola to clean the engines @ coke distribution centers, could be BS but it will dissolve steel and works great on steel wool removing rust.

Looks like CLR would be the best alternative, since it's made to dissolve calcium, lime & rust~
