URGENT: Fuel pump compatability?

Hey guys,
I needed to get a new FP for my 91 Toyota pickup v6, and have recently found one close to my house. The only issue is its not the recommended pump by Federal, the company who makes the pump I am looking at buying. Its brand new, in the box for $100, which would be perfect IF it works.

The part number provided by the ad is P72189 which according to Federal is for 90-95 Toyota trucks, not specifically the 22re or 3VZE. The one recommended by them is P72165 for my application.

What are your thoughts? Should it work? Should i get the specific model? I am confused and don't want to butcher something. I was reading it could just be the connector on it, but i could just pull that off my current pump and solder it on correct?

Also, am I able to connect my current fuel pump directly up to my battery to test if it works? It is 12 volts after all.

Give me your thoughts please! Thanks.

I don`t know if the one your looking at will work or not, but you can hook it directly to a 12 volt source to see if it works.

I just checked Rock Auto and they have new fuel pumps for your truck starting at 50.00 dollars. You can check them out here www.rockauto.com

The Performance Electric one is $50, have you ever used it?

Your last question first.
You can connect directly onto your pump. Your wires coming out of the pickup assembly will possibily be a blue wire and a white black or similiar. The white/black is the negative terminal, the blue (or what ever colour you have) will be the positive. You will need a container of some sort to catch any fuel that is pumped and you will need to have your 12 v source (battery) at least 15 feet away from your tank and enough wire to reach to the tank and back. Different colours are best, make sure that you have a solid connection at the plug and to test the pump you will be 15 feet away from the tank pump etc when you touch the wires on the battery. There will be gas fumes and you don't want any sparks that's why you don't want to be close to the tank.
An easier way is block the tank up under your truck close enough so that you can plug the pump wires back together, jumper Fp and B+ at the check connector (under your hood close to the fuse block) and turn on the key. Make sure that you have containers to catch any fuel that is pumped.

P72165 is the fuel pump listed for your truck on Rock auto, P72189 is for all 92 4Runners and Pickups up until 04/92 after 04/92 the pump listed is P72188. I don't see what the difference is. The tank listings for a 91 and 92 pickup are the same, 17 or 19 gallon. I'd say take your pick-up assembly out of the tank remove the old pump, take it with you and go see buddy in Abbotsford and compare the two. I think it's the same.
