Upgrade to 4 point seatbelt?

As I have posted previously I am in the process of buying a 1987 Toyota 4X4 Truck with a standard cab and bench seat as my replacement truck for my poor 1985 2x4 Toyota Truck that was murdered by a driver blowing through a red light.

The accident really screwed up my neck, the doctors what to remove a disk and fuse the vertebra. Hitting the seat belt and twisting around it messed me up bad. I am considering upgrading the drivers belt to a four point harness so if I am ever in another accident from the front I will be restrained on both shoulders, not one twisting me and messing me up further.

Questions:
1.) Is a four point harness legal in Arizona?

2.) How do I anchor the shoulder harnesses into the truck?

3.) Who do I trust? What brand Seatbelt should I go with?

4.) Is this a good idea?

Thanks for the input,

grey

The problem with the 4 and 5 point harness is in the event of a rollover. Right now if the cab crushes in and down on you, you can lean or be pushed over to the middle of the cab. If you have a 4 point harness on, there is no movement and no leaning to avoid the crushing roof. This is why unless your in a vehicle with well setup up roll protection, you shouldn't run harnesses.

4 point harness in DD usage would suck. you would miss the retractor and being able to lean forward etc. That being said, a 4 point harness saved my butt a long time ago when I rolled 3 times and endo'ed once in a bug.

Sucks to hear about your accident and following condition.

yes, full harness will suck for DD.

In regards to what Robert M said - yes, the harness will keep you in place during a rollover, but if you want to "properly" mount that harness you'd likely install an interior roll cage with a crossbar to mount from - so it kinda evens out the concern...unless you go cheap and install a hokey-fab mounting system w/o a cage, but what's the point?

What you are looking for is something like a Schroth autocontrol. Quick and easy to use with inertia real shoulder straps.

Retractable shoulder straps, nice! Truck an 87 does not have air bags so another front end accident would screw me up really bad whether I have the surgery or not.

Last accident was unavoidable, I never saw her until impact .

Anybody know of any other options??? It is going to be a while before I can put a cage in it, if I could do that...

You would be surprised how often it gets done without any type of cage and how often it would get asked about on other offroad forums I'm on.
