undebody spare tire carrier
Hi, I have the carrier that starts on the left side and has a rod that connects to the center where the tire is lowered. I'm having a hard time finding a used replacement. I was wondering if anyone has switched to the one that the rod goes straight to the center where it is lowered. And did you have any problems making the switch.
Thanks

Yep - I did the same thing. Only major problem was getting the bolts out - they screw down from the top, nuts are welded onto the lift mechanism. I ended up driling them out. If you have a truck, I would HIGHLY recommend you remove the bed. If you have a 4Runner, you will need ratcheting end wrenches - there isn't even enough room to get a socket in between the bolt and the bottom of the "bed" and you can only swing a few degrees so you won't be able to do it with regular end wrenches. (BTW - now that I have ratcheting wrenches, I wonder how I live without them)
It functions just fine, but it's a little hard to get the rod through there and into the jack mechanism - a little bigger hole in the bumper would help.
