Trucks worth more than 4runners?
I was looking at kbb.com today at vehicle prices and according to them my '94 xtracab (in sig) would be worth $5480 in "good" condition. I then looked at a '94 4runner with the same equipment and they say that its worth $4810. What gives?
I definately would have thought that a 4runner would be the most desirable and worth at least a grand more than a truck. I'm assuming the original dealer price was also considerably more on the 4runner than the truck.

Trucks get beat up easier, and are rarer because of it. If they are in good shape, they are gonna cost more and get rarer and rarer because they are used for work trucks more often that 4 runners which are used for soccer and football pads. My guess.

=( I would've gotten the truck if I had the money and a decent amount of time to find one in good shape. Doesn't surprise me on the cost though. Besides, 4Runners go for quite a bit here in San Antonio

Generally speaking, trucks up here in BC are about the same, or more, on average, than comparably equipped 4runners to support the contents of this thread anyways.
I think there may be a few reasons:
You not only have to compare it to the 4runner to understand why trucks are worth more, but you also have to compare it to newer trucks too:
Here are a few reasons why I think the trucks cost more than the 4runners, especially in good condition:
1) They cost less to insure than a newer truck (say a Tacoma for comparison) and will do the same duties, with the exception of maybe towing as much weight, albeit they aren't as fancy.
2) They are reliable compared to similarly equipped domestics of the same year classes, and even newer ones around the same price range
3) They are "rarer" as mentioned, than 4runners
4) Lots of guys get an older truck, and especially the Toyota's, because they want something they won't kill themselves over if they get a scratch or small dent or something like that, yet it will still be reliable.
5) I hate to say this, but the trucks are better looking than the 4runners.
6) The 3rd gen trucks still have the heritage of Toyota pickups sold around the world. They have fully boxed, ridgid frames, and are built in Japan.

I must say a contributing factor would be pure numbers. There are way more 4Runners than pickups of that generation. Browse the for sale ads, far less trucks compared to 4Runners. I sold my 89 pickup for $5500 last month, I paid $4500 for it 3 years ago. I sold it within 8 hours of the ad being released by the way.

Strange, but used toyo trucks here are usually quite a bit less than 4runners. Especially first and second gen. I don't know why. But whenever there's a 2nd gen 4runner in the paper, it's usually gone in a day or two.
