Basically -- when I bought the truck it was missing the inner fender liner and the grommet where the hole for the antenna cable was that runs into the pass side wheel well. Moisture was getting in through there and I had to replace other relays located there but the FP always worked so I never thought to pop it open and take a look until this problem started getting really bad. You're definitely right, the fact it was working at all is kind of impressive.
