Transmission swap

Transmission swap
I recently bought a 93 SR5 w/ automatic trans, and find that I get a marvelous 13 mpg ! In my 92 w/ 5 sp I got 18-20 mpg. This 93 has a pretty solid frame, and in the rust belt, that is a significant issue, so I would rather swap transmissions than look for another truck. I am familiar with these swaps in American classics (my other truck is a 57 Chevy w/ 350, and I get 18 mpg), but don't want to assume Toyata swaps are the same. some questions before I start buying things:
Are the transfer cases the same from auto to manual?
Any need to change or modify crossmembers for the swap?
What about drive shaft lengths?
Will I need to change computers, or are there some electronic short-cuts which will be necessary?
Thanks in advance for tips

Do you have a manual transmission?
It may be easier and more straightforward to regear the diffs down a step or two, as the MAJOR problem with the automatic is the MONSTER overdrive coupled to a relatively peaky and underpowered engine. This results in the transmission not locking up the torque converter or not being able to hold overdrive which dramatically increases your consumption.
