transmission question

How possible is it that since my 4runner went into a river before I bought it, some corrosion or build up on some key electronic parts could be causing my o/d not to come on and transmission sometimes feels like it might be slipping.

Wow that was hard to get out! whew! hope it makes sense. LOL!

Anybody!

Please I need to figure out why the light does not come on.

Its a 94 v6 4wd .

Pushing the button in or out has no effect, also I cannot shift into 4h on the fly. I have to stop, put in into 4l and then 4h and then the 4wd light comes on.

If the trans had water in it you need to have it rebuilt, no need to worry or hurry, but if it was filled with water for more than a few minutes you are about to have major problems.

If the OD OFF light on the dash never lights up I would say you have a problem in that circuit that needs to be repaired first. IIRC, the light should come on no matter what the trans is doing. All the light is for to let you know if YOU have overdrive cancelled. It could be something as simple as the bulb is burned out so it can't complete the circuit. Good luck.

Pull codes and see what happens. Same way that you pull engine codes just watch the O/D light instead of the check engine light.

Try to replace the vacuum that goes to your right side fender, it might leak air somewhere there, mine was leaking at the gas fitting which locate back of the manifold or air chamber.
