transmission problems/advice?

alright, so i have a 1986 toyota 4runner, W56-B manual transmission
and its not going into reverse. it just started a couple weeks ago by pushing itself out of reverse so i would have to hold it in when backing up. its progressively gotten worse. now it won't go into reverse at all, it just grinds. so no reverse.

what do yall suggest i do? i can have my off road shop rebuild it?
is this problem worth rebuilding?
or should i invest in a nice rebuilt one?
i'm on a budge so i want to get the most for my money.

any advice would help.
thanks in advance

The best advice I got and never ran with was to replace my 700r4 with a factory GM rebuilt unit. Little more money (initially) but the best warranty that covered parts and labour......god I wish I heeded that advice- it would have cost $2500 at the time not $7000 over 3 years. Don't know if you can get a reman unit from Toy.

Get a used replacement trans. Lots of different ones fit in there so should not be hard to find. Rebuilding or getting a rebuild is way to much money (2-3k) for an 86 truck. Used trans $100-400.
