Transmission Leak (pics)

I need an opinion on what is causing this massive leak above my transmission? I think it is the red transmission oil, but I am not sure. Its on the body/frame above the transmission. I'm going to take it to the mechanic soon.

My transmission shifts fine and I have been driving everyday (2WD). But a few weeks back I had a hard time shifting from 4WD to 2WD as it seem'ed to get stuck in 4WD. Don't know if it has a relation. This is my DD.

Any opinions? WTF is leaking the red stuff above, or is it the shifter?

edit: its a 5spd manual trans

maybe valve cover gasket, and it's blowing oil back onto the firewall and running down?

Its not an auto, its a 5spd manual behind a 22re 4x4. The oil is red in colour, so cant be engine oil, but then my truck body color is red.

I would say valve cover leak also, the red your seeing is the body color. there is nothing in that area on the transmission that can leak oil, were as a valve cover that is leaking real bad can blow oil all over the place.

oh yeah well if it's a manual, there's not pressurised fluid moving around in there anyway, so usually if a manual leaks, even if out of the top, it'll just trickle down the side of the trans and drip off the bottom

PS fluid is red ATF, but I don't see that fluid getting back there like that as tortis said

and yeah the red you're seeing looks like the body color, lol

run your hand down the back of the valve cover and down to the cynlider head underneath. if you pull your hand back up and it's covered in oil, then your valve cover's just leaking, which is only about a $10 fix and about a 15 minute process if you've never done it before
