I ahve some major play where my driveshaft meets the back back of the transfer case. and it seems to be causing major shaking under high speeds.... trying to find the parts (seal, nut, and bearing) have been frustraing as local parts dont "know" what I need...

Question: can I pull down the driveshaft and inspect the nut and possibly tighten it without needing any new seals or gaskets when I am done? I am hoping I can get in there and just tighten the nut and help some of this play in the driveshaft.

My truck did the same thing after replacing the rear seal. The nut backed off, I was able to tighten the nut again and the play was gone. Make sure and use a punch to lock the nut in place. If tightening doesn't help, then it's a sign something is not right, and needs to be corrected before it gets even more expensive.

 

thanks for the info... I tightened the nut....no change..
I do have a small miss at idle, 1500 rpm, and 2500 rpm...only missing and running rough at those points... These misses (in park or nuetral) make the truck shake... does anyone think that while in gear going down the road the "misses" are making me feel like a paint mixer?
