transfer case/ crank shaft 94 4Runner 5Spd.
In front of the transfer case (linked to it), and behind the engine is the crankshaft right? (about 1.5 -2ft long) Is there supposed to be grease and some oil on this piece? I am not too sure what to make of it or if everything is fine...
I do have a small valve gasket leak, could spray be coming down from that?
Thanks

dude, i hope you meant drive shaft. that thing between the engine and t-case is called the transmission. the shaft coming off the t-case to the front diff should have some grease zerks(sp), so you may have some grease on them. post some pics

Yeah, you're talking about the front driveshaft. The crankshaft is inside the engine....the block or lower end/crankcase, blah, blah.
That spray....if it's towards the t-case end of the driveshaft, it would not be motor oil. It's either grease from the double-cardan joint there or the seal at the t-case is leaking gear oil. But, if it's toward the front differential, it could be motor oil. It is right under the motor. However, grease also tends to get thrown from u-joints or the slip joint on the end of the shaft. There should definitely be grease in either of those.

The oil is on the transfer case side end of the driveshaft and the other end as well. (there is a valve oil gasket leak on the right side of the engine) I assume I need to check the fluid in the transfer case, and quite possibly replace the seal for it as well. Is that a big job? easy, hard?
Thanks for the help.
