Tranny shifting issues
So.. I've gone through everything i can find on this topic and am still having the same issue. I have a 90 4runner v6 i have the a340h tranny/tcase. The issue i'm having is when its cold it's in a VERY low gear and until it warms up it stays there no matter what. I've replaced the filter changed the fluid a couple times, and recently replaced the solenoids to no avail. I CANNOT figure why in the hell this only happens when its cold. Any help with this will be appreciated. Also once it warms up, the shifting is fine, not any issues at all. Thanks all

There's a little electrical sensor at the back of the intake mani on the drivers side called the ECT. It measures the engine temp and tells the tranny when it can go into overdrive(over 170 degrees I believe). If it's not working well or dead, the ECU probably is thinking your engine is cold, hence the slow shifts. I just bought one from Toyota for $51.00, and now it seems like my o/drive is working fine again....

I get it, but it sounds to me that it's still heat/temperature related. I know that there's at least two temp sensors back on the intake mani, and possibly more. These trucks definitely have some weird stuff on them......
