Yes they did come with each new car plus a spark plug socket and a screw driver that was a flat tip on one end and a phillip on the other you just pulled the shaft out and turned it around. That was in the late 60's and seventys. I think the L/C still had them till the 90's.

So true...

However the only problem with them is that with the age of these trucks now, if you tried to use an open ended wrench on anything at all on the truck you'd round it off so quickly you wouldn't be able to cuss at it first.

Every bolt I've taken off on my truck lately has been frozen on. 6 point sockets are our friend now.

Hmm... I wonder what it would look like if you found a clean set and sent them out to be chromed, and then made wall hanging to show them off...

I got toyota on the brain...

Here's my best friend, although I have the 62 piece version at the moment. I can take off any bolt, no matter how rounded it is. Note in the pic below how even the open end wrench grabs the bolt head at four points, and it grabs it at the wall, not the corner. I couldn't live without metrinch.

Another advantage is, one socket size will work for both SAE and metric bolts -- no need for two sets.

Yeah I picked up a smaller Metrinch set at a pawnshop for once for about $35 and they do work good. When ever I feel like I'm about to get in trouble with rounding off a bolt or nut I go for the Metrinch set. They really saved my butt a time or two.

Would be cool but the rechroming process would more then likely remove allot of detail from the text.

I have become best friends with my 21/64th drill bit and #8 helicoil kit. I would say that 80% of the bolts I try to remove on the undercarriage break off. I learned quick that everytime I remove a bolt I replace it with a Grade 10 SS bolt.
