Towing ability of 4 cylinder engine?

How much can your typical 1989 4 cylinder engine pull, providing the engine is in decent running condition? 5 speed manual shift.

Will it tow a 1000 pound small fold down camper?

Thanks.

The tow rating for the '93 4x4 truck I owned was 3500 lbs.,with either the I4, or V6.

Since the '89 is the same truck, I'm sure it was rated the same.

Forgot to ad, It would be a good idea not to tow anything like that a long distance without electric brakes, just to be safe. Mike
