torque converter woes....
I bought my 4runner back in february and everything was fine and dandy. In mid july i left it sitting for 3 days while at camp and on the trip home my torque converter wouldn't lock up. a week ago it started locking again only to stop today. anyone have a clue what could be wrong? my kickdown cable is adjusted to spec. and the tranny has the right amount of fresh fluid and a new filter. bad torque converter? or bad lock-up selenoid? i'd like to get it fixed this weekend for good.

Time to go through the diagnostic proceedures in the FSM: This 93 should work for your 95: http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...autotrans.html

when i bought it, she would run at 2500 rpm's doing 60 mph. now she does 3k rpm's at 60. it goes into every gear fine. earlier this morning i checked the stall out speed and it seems that its not my TC, but rather the lock-up relay valve or the lock-up selenoid itself. nobody carries these so it looks like i'm off to the stealership later this week.

Hughs Performance, for sure, carries them. It'll be less expensive going that route.
FWIW, the "stall test", simply test the stall rate of the TC and that has nothing to do with the lockup function, frictions, etc.
